Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the designated Wexford manager, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for organizing the medication storage and distribution areas and assists in the procurement of ordered medications from an off-site pharmacy as well as assisting in the return of unused medications.

 

This position is considered per diem or "as needed".



Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the maintenance of pharmacy records.
  2.  Assist with the maintenance of inventory and audit procedures and records.
  3. Maintain the security of all medications and supplies under their control or supervision.
  4. Processes supply requests in a prompt, cooperative and efficient manner.
  5. Confirm ordered medications are received
  6. Log outgoing medications.
  7. Fax patient prescriptions to the offsite pharmacy in a timely manner per Unit policy/process.
  8. Communicate with offsite Pharmacy staff as needed to ensure faxed prescriptions/orders are received by them and legible and as necessary to ensure timely delivery of all ordered medications.
  9. Perform medication expiration checks of all medications in the Unit as per policy/procedure.
  10. Report delays, discrepancies or any and all concerns immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  11. Maintain an orderly, clean and organized medication area at all times.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of all patient records.
  13. Comply with applicable Administrative/Institutional Directives related to Medication distribution and storage within the qualifications of a pharmacy technician.
  14. Attends Unit Meetings as directed.
  15. Participates in Quality Assurance studies and meetings as requested or directed.

 



Qualifications:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
OFFICE: Standard medical setting in a correctional facility, which included daily interfacing with inmates/patients, correctional staff, and health care personnel.  Possible exposure to toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medicinal preparations.  Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
TRAVEL:  Minimal travel required.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

 

EXPERIENCE: 1 year Correctional Health Care or hospital pharmacy preferred
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Certified in the State of Illinois
